Olivier, the land-based Popping Master

Let's meet Olivier - A self-taught, land-based popping master with numerous beastly catches on his track record…

At 70 lbs, this Giant Trevally is not Olivier's biggest catch. Setup: Assassin Spinmaster Spin pop 4xh rod, Okuma metaloid 9000 reel, Boss Braid 100 lbs, Nomad Reptide Leader 150 lbs, Starwalker Stickbait 190mm/130g Lure, Owner hooks 4/0.

With a jaw-dropping statistics of 50 Giant Trevallies ranging from 20 to 90 lbs (Oct. 2017 - to date), it is very difficult for Olivier to pass unnoticed within the amateur anglers community. An awesome and honorable performance!. With a very warm, all smiling and joyful character, Olivier willingly accepted our interview.

Olivier's biggest catch. A 90 lbs Bluefin Trevally when held upright matches Oliver's height. Popping Setup: Shimano Kaibutsu rod, Shimano Saragosa SW 20000, Daiwa J Braid 103 lbs, Noeby Sinking Stickbait 120g.

Olivier battling against the elements in the southern part of Mauritius, with no coral reef to act as barrier against the large waves. Rocky cliffs provides an ideal spot for large predators - Sharks, Trevallies, Barracuda.

All started at the very young age of three, in fresh water. Residing at Quatre-Borne, Olivier used to go fishing with his father, Patrick George, at La Ferme. His father, having a passion for fishing, readily transmitted it to the young Olivier.

After school, around in the year 2010, Olivier started working and could finance his hobby and had objective to bring it to the next level. At the same period, he met with Stephan Lokee, which changed his vision of fishing for ever. Stephan was practicing popping and it was the first time that Olivier saw this method of fishing. Olivier was quite skeptical of this method at first, but soon came to know it, love it and made it his way of fishing.
Stephan Lokkee, Olivier's friend. Setup: Shimano Calcutta Casting Reel, Shimano BeastMaster 12 feet, 100-150g Popper.

With this inspiring encounter sparking Olivier's interest for popping, he used this momentum to start researching on the subject and gather insights. One of his memorable reference is the youtube channel: MorningTide Fishing

Serious fishing started when Olivier bought his Poseidon Popping Rod paired to a Penn Battle 2 reel and loaded with Power Pro 80 lbs braid. At the same time Olivier realized that he needs to understand factors that influence fish catch - mainly tides, seasonal changes, atmospheric pressure along with other variables. He, therefore, started recording his observation in a very systematic manner leaving luck aside.

With these valuable data, added to his experience, he is now able to predict catches with greater confidence. Everything unroll from this moment onwards with the catch only growing in size. Below is a summary of Olivier's catch. Enjoy!
